Are you holding onto excess weight as a way of protecting yourself and keeping you safe?
I have many years of experience and research working with women in this area. And I have identified six key blocks and barriers that lead to your eating sabotage.
One key block is weight as protection.
If you are holding on to excess weight, it’s there for a reason. It’s there to keep you safe. It’s there to protect you. There’s a deeper reason about why you haven’t been able to lose the weight.
You might be sitting there thinking: of course I want to lose weight. Of course I want to be in a smaller body and I want to feel happy and fit and free.
This is where you get into the powerful conscious versus subconscious mind.
At a conscious level, 99% of women say yes, I wanna be in a smaller body. But have a look at what’s happening at your subconscious level. Often there’s an internal conflict between the two.
Your conscious mind is only 10% of who you are. Your subconscious is 90%.
Which one do you think wins out? When there’s conflict going on, the subconscious is in charge and making the decisions.
If you have any fears around being in a smaller body, at a subconscious level, it’s going to keep the weight on.
The purpose is to try to protect you.
Some of these fears might be: I don’t know who I am in a smaller body. I don’t know how to be. I don’t know how to interact in the world in a smaller body. I’m so used to being big. It’s scary.
Another one might be: if I was in a smaller body, I don’t know how I’d protect myself. I’d feel way too vulnerable, and I don’t do vulnerability. That’s a big one for many.
Think about what your deeper fears are about why you are holding on to your excess weight.
The key is to work at that level to process that. Otherwise, your body is hearing the message to keep eating, keep the weight on for protection. It’s too unsafe for you to be in a smaller body.
Increase self-awareness about why you continue to eat, why you continue to hold the weight on.
Start to focus at this subconscious level for real change and real transformation. Not at that 10%, which is often when you diet, that’s the level that you operate in. It’s only short term, and it’s superficial, and it’s not sustainable.
